Planning Ahead:

- Order currency; small bills for tips and small purchases
- Advise banks of travel plans, foreign transaction fees
- Check your passport expiration date
- Download necessary apps: airlines, cruises, trains/transportation, tour companies
Packing:
- Use a reasonably sized suitcase if you are moving frequently between cities/towns
- Pack light but be prepared for weather – light raincoat, packable winter coat, hat, gloves, scarf, umbrella
- Put medications in original containers in carry-on
- Dress in layers for flight; comfortable for temperature changes
- Take a packable bag in checked luggage for extra space for your souvenirs/purchases
- Adaptor/converter
Jet Lag:
- Stay hydrated
- Get outside, take a walk, explore your surroundings
- Eat a light meal
- Try to stay awake and “be” in the current time zone; don’t go to bed too early
Last Minute Plans:
- Schedule airport arrival/departure transfers
- Purchase museum/historical site tickets in advance for most popular sites
Tipping:
- Housekeeping – average suggested amount $2 to $3 per day and up to $5 per day for 4-to-5-star hotel
- Valet parking – $3 to $5 and is presented after the valet has retrieved your vehicle
- Bellman – $1 to $2 per bag
- Shuttle drivers – $5 per person is customary
- Keep in mind tipping is always at your discretion
