| Hands On Sailing & Kayaking, Inc. top |
Get to know MT by enjoying the largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi - Flathead
Lake. Charter a cruise on one of our sailing vessels and grab the tiller, kick back and take in
the grandeur of it all, learn how to sail, or charter one of our boats for the seasoned sailor.
~ Guided Tours ~
Generally, 3 hrs. is enough to experience Flathead Lake "Hands On" style, but call us for
variations. You can man the helm, pull the sheets, or just sit back and enjoy the views to a
chorus of wind and waves. Kids under 10 ride free. Call for food by The Docks Restaurant
in Lakeside. Minimum of 2 people for 3 hours.
Cross the reservation line into Salish-Kootenei waters for a more adventurous sail. Our
Santana 20 is close to the water for an exciting ride and mythical Wild Horse Island fills up
the horizon. This sail will give you a true taste of Montana and you'll walk away with a
feeling of the way things used to be. Call for food by La Riviera Restaurant in Big Arm.
Minimum of 2 people for 3 hours.
We'll check out your sailing skills so that you can check out our vessel and shoot the
breeze on your own for up to 8 hrs. The checkout usually takes 15-30 minutes. This boat is
a 26 ft. fixed-keel boat with roller furling, a spacious cabin/birth and deck, and a propane
grill. You won't find a boat that's better taken care of and as easy to sail on Flathead than
this one. Call for food by The Docks Restaurant in Lakeside.
Take out this quick and fun boat and tour around Wild Horse Island. The Santana 20 is
rigged for racing and maneuvers extremely well. It's 20 feet long with a 2.5 foot draft so
you can get right up to shore. It's ready to sail and has an outboard mounted on the stern.
Live the life of a drunken sailor and bunk up in the Cal 25 at the docks of the Docks Restaurant. You can sleep 2 in the v-birth, 2 on the couches, and 2 on the floor when you
lay pads down. Fresh linens for the v-birth and clean sleeping bags are provided. Must
stay in the designated mooring area. Ask us about places to anchor and sleep. for food by La Riviera Restaurant.
Basic Sailing I
This 2 hour course on board one of our vessels will teach you everything you need to know
to sail a basic keelboat. It covers parts of the boat, tacking, jibing, points of sail, the
physics of sailing, knot tying, and more. You will receive a course manual for reference
which is based off of ASA's certification
Basic Sailing II
Basic Sailing II is also a 2 hour course that focuses on what it takes to be a complete
skipper and to ensure that you return with as many passengers as you departed with. It
will cover rescue maneuvers, knowing your environment, docking, other maneuvers, and
more, and review Basic Sailing I.
~ Combos ~
Think you can learn how to sail? You can do it. We'll teach you how to sail until we feel
comfortable that you can charter the boat on your own. Or if your already a sailor, take
advantage of better rates when you patronize more than one of our services. Check it out
