Gene’s wife Dorothy took over in 1969. It was her personality and dedication to provide excellent service that created exceptional growth and assured the longevity of the business. In 1986 Gene’s daughters, Micki Nonemacher and Darcy Lard joined the business and assumed management roles. Today, Micki, Darcy and their brother, Roger McGlenn, have purchased the business from their parents. Flathead Travel Service has seen many changes in their 48 years of service to the valley, from hand written airline tickets to computer technology and the Internet. The one thing that has not changed is their dedication to quality and service!

Kalispell Office

Back in 1960, Gene McGlenn was a successful fire and casualty insurance agent in Kalispell when he decided to open a travel service. Gene opened Flathead Travel on October 25, 1960 in the Elks Building at First and Main in Kalispell. In 1963 the office was located next to Moose’s Saloon on Main Street. In 1969, Flathead Travel moved to 32 Second Street West, and eventually housed the old back bar from the Pine Grove Hotel, as part of the décor.

Today, Flathead Travel’s home office is located at 500 South Main, plus branch offices in Whitefish, Missoula, and Helena. Flathead Travel has always been a Montana family owned business. Gene asked his father to return from Spokane to Kalispell in1962 to run the travel service.
